We provide culturally responsive services, advocacy, and support, and our team works in a mission-driven environment that values inclusion, respect, and community engagement. About the Role As part of the Illinois Democracy Project, a coalition-wide initiative with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), AAFS is working to mobilize 37,000 voters, the highest target of any social service organization in the project. Canvassers are at the heart of that effort, talking face to face with residents in local immigrant communities. What You'll Do -Knock on doors and hold short, friendly conversations with residents -Complete voter ID conversations: ask whether each person plans to vote and how (early voting, vote by mail, or on Election Day) -Ask residents for their views on three key policy issues and record their responses -Enter data accurately and efficiently in our canvassing app -Keep a pace of 20 doors per hour -Join phone banking shifts from time to time -Report your progress to your field team Schedule and Pay -$15/hour -Minimum of 15 hours per week, typically three 5-hour shifts (some flexibility in shift length) -Weekend availability is required -Work is outdoors, so expect to be on your feet and out in all weather What We're Looking For -Friendly, confident communicator who enjoys talking with strangers -Respectful and culturally aware when working with diverse communities -Able to stay organized and keep up a steady pace while entering data accurately -Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated -Able to walk and stand for extended periods outdoors -High school diploma or equivalent -Bilingual or multilingual ability, especially Arabic and English, is highly beneficial -Prior canvassing, outreach, or non-profit experience is a plus, but we will train you Pay: $15.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 – 30.0 per week Benefits: - Flexible schedule - Mileage reimbursement - On-the-job training Work Location: In person
