This role is responsible for gathering, documenting, analyzing, and validating business requirements for Power BI reporting, data warehouse enhancements, and enterprise data integration initiatives. The Business Systems Analyst works closely with business leaders to understand reporting needs, define data requirements, and create detailed functional specifications that guide BI Developers and Data Engineers in building ETL processes and reporting solutions. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, data expertise, and the ability to interpret API payloads, file structures, and source system data models to identify and document enterprise reporting requirements. This position will report to the Director – Enterprise Data and BI. Essential Functions · Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational processes, reporting needs, KPIs, and analytical requirements. · Facilitate discovery sessions, workshops, interviews, and requirements gathering meetings. · Translate business objectives into functional and technical requirements for BI and Data Engineering teams. · Analyze current-state processes and identify opportunities for reporting automation and data-driven decision making. · Validate business requirements and ensure alignment with organizational goals. · Create detailed Business Requirements Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), user stories, and process documentation. · Define source-to-target data requirements and business rules for enterprise reporting solutions. · Document data transformations, calculations, KPIs, metrics, dimensions, and reporting logic. · Develop clear specifications used by developers to build ETL processes, data models, and reporting solutions. · Ensure requirements are complete, accurate, and traceable throughout the project lifecycle. · Analyze source systems, APIs, data files, and third-party applications to identify reporting and integration requirements. · Interpret API payloads, schemas, and documentation to determine required fields and data elements for ingestion into the data warehouse. · Collaborate with Data Engineers to define mappings, transformations, and integration requirements. · Evaluate data quality, business rules, and dependencies across multiple systems. · Assist in data validation and user acceptance testing efforts. · Define business requirements for Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, and self-service analytics solutions. · Create report mockups, wireframes, and dashboard prototypes to align stakeholder expectations before development begins. · Collaborate with BI Developers to ensure reporting solutions meet business requirements and usability standards. · Support the definition of KPIs, calculations, filters, hierarchies, drill-through functionality, and report navigation. · Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) and facilitate stakeholder sign-off. · Assist with troubleshooting reported issues and validating implemented solutions. Minimum Qualifications · Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered. · 3+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role. · Experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements for reporting, analytics, or data integration projects. · Strong understanding of data warehousing, reporting, and business intelligence concepts. · Experience working with SQL and relational databases. · Experience working with APIs, flat files, and enterprise application integrations. · Experience supporting Power BI or other business intelligence platforms. · Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. · Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, or similar data platforms is a plus. · Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON payloads, XML, and data integration patterns. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities · Business analysis methodologies and best practices. · Data warehousing, data modeling, and business intelligence concepts. · API integrations, file-based integrations, and enterprise data flows. · Requirements management and software development lifecycle (SDLC). · Dashboard and reporting design principles. · Knowledge of ETL/ELT methodologies and enterprise data architecture. · Power BI reporting capabilities and analytical reporting concepts. · Strong requirements elicitation, documentation, and process mapping skills. · Ability to interpret complex business needs and translate them into technical specifications. · Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. · Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and validation. · Ability to review API payloads and identify required business and reporting data elements. · Experience creating process flows, wireframes, mockups, and functional documentation. · Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. · Ability to bridge communication gaps between business stakeholders and technical teams. · Ability to analyze complex business processes and convert them into actionable requirements. · Ability to identify data dependencies, business rules, and reporting requirements across multiple systems. · Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities in a fast-paced environment. · Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. · Ability to drive projects from requirements gathering through implementation and user acceptance testing.
