We work closely with our clients to understand their business, identify opportunities, and assemble multidisciplinary teams of strategists, designers, developers, and marketers to create solutions that deliver meaningful results. We are growing our sales team and looking for a full-time Business Development Manager with experience selling technology, design, digital consulting, or professional services. We want someone who understands consultative selling and is comfortable having conversations with business and technology leaders about their challenges, goals, and opportunities. The right person will be motivated to build relationships ranging from emerging businesses to enterprise organizations, actively develop a strong professional network, generate new opportunities, and ultimately turn conversations about business challenges into meaningful consulting engagements. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is not only a great salesperson, but also a great person and collaborative teammate. Qualifications 3–5+ years of business development experience within a technology consultancy, digital agency, design firm, software development company, or similar professional services environment . Demonstrated experience selling technology, design, UX/UI, digital strategy, software development, website development, AI, or other consulting services . Experience with consultative selling , including uncovering business challenges, identifying opportunities, shaping potential solutions, and bringing subject matter experts into the sales process. Ability to engage confidently with business, marketing, product, design, and technology leaders and understand their priorities. You can speak intelligently about custom website design and development, software and digital product development, UX/UI, emerging technologies, AI, and creative marketing. You do not need to be a designer or developer, but you should understand the fundamentals of how digital products and technology solutions are planned, designed, built, and delivered. Experience partnering with designers, developers, strategists, project managers, and technical leaders during the sales and discovery process. Ability to translate complex client needs into opportunities that our design and technology teams can help solve. Proven experience generating, growing, and managing $500K+ in annual revenue. Experience developing new client relationships while also identifying opportunities to expand existing accounts. An established professional network in the Seattle area and beyond, with the ability to leverage relationships to create new opportunities. Experience selling into one or more of the following verticals is preferred: life sciences/biotech, healthcare/wellness, research and development, emerging technology, and technology-driven organizations. Proven success working toward and exceeding defined sales goals. A strong track record of developing trusted client and partner relationships. Experience creating pitch materials, proposals, scopes, and presentations in collaboration with internal subject matter experts. Experience responding to, writing, presenting, and winning RFPs. Experience collaborating with other sales and delivery team members to win complex engagements. Strong interpersonal and networking skills with a proven ability to create and nurture genuine professional relationships. Ability to travel when needed to prospect, develop relationships, and close new business. You understand what it takes to successfully deliver a high-quality design, digital product, or technology consulting engagement. You are curious about technology and design and actively seek to understand new platforms, trends, tools, and approaches. Responsibilities Own all aspects of the business development process, including prospecting, relationship building, qualification, discovery, proposal development, presentations, negotiation, and closing. Take a consultative approach to business development , working to understand each prospect's organization, business challenges, technology environment, customer needs, and strategic goals before recommending an engagement. Identify opportunities where Mentor's expertise in technology, digital strategy, UX/UI, software development, website development, AI, and creative services can create meaningful business value. Partner closely with Mentor's Project Managers, Software Developers, Designers, Strategists, and other subject matter experts throughout the sales process to develop thoughtful solutions for prospective clients. Lead and participate in early discovery conversations to help define business requirements, project objectives, potential solutions, budgets, timelines, and appropriate next steps. Take ownership of a $500K+ annual revenue target while contributing to quarterly and company-wide revenue goals. Develop a deep understanding of Mentor's history, capabilities, case studies, team expertise, and competitive positioning so you can effectively connect prospective client needs with the right people and services. Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities through outbound prospecting, referrals, networking, partnerships, events, existing relationships, and other business development activities. Bring fresh ideas and approaches to prospecting while maintaining a disciplined process for nurturing and following up with opportunities. Research prospective clients, their industries, competitive environments, business models, digital ecosystems, and technology challenges to identify relevant opportunities and create more meaningful conversations. Attend networking events, industry gatherings, conferences, and meetups to grow Mentor's presence and develop new relationships. Meet regularly with prospective and existing clients to present capabilities, uncover new opportunities, and grow long-term relationships. Stay current on developments in technology, digital product design, AI, UX/UI, software development, and digital transformation so you can recognize new opportunities for Mentor and our clients. Initial 90-Day Trial Period This role will begin with a three-month trial period designed to ensure there is a strong mutual fit between the Business Development Manager and Mentor. During this initial period, you'll be expected to quickly learn Mentor's capabilities, build and activate your pipeline, develop new client relationships, and demonstrate your ability to turn opportunities into signed engagements. To successfully complete the trial period, you will be expected to close a minimum of $50,000 in new business within your first three months. We're looking for someone who can bring both an established network and a proactive approach to new business development. While you'll have the support of Mentor's leadership, design, development, strategy, and project management teams throughout the sales process, you'll be expected to take ownership of building your pipeline and driving opportunities forward. The 90-day period isn't just about hitting a number. It's also an opportunity for both sides to make sure the fit is right: that you believe in what Mentor can offer clients, that you enjoy working with our team, and that we can provide the environment and support you need to be successful long term. Following successful completion of the trial period, the role will continue as a full-time position with an annual new-business revenue target of $500K+.
