Job Summary The Barista is responsible for delivering exceptional coffee, beverage, and guest service experiences in the hotel’s food and beverage outlets. The role involves preparing and presenting high-quality coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and other menu items in accordance with established recipes and hotel standards. The Barista is expected to provide warm, attentive, and efficient service while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, product quality, and workplace organization. The role also contributes to smooth daily operations, efficient stock management, and an inviting atmosphere that enhances overall guest satisfaction. Key Responsibilities 1. Beverage Preparation & Quality Prepare and serve a wide range of coffee, espresso-based beverages, teas, specialty drinks, and other beverages according to approved recipes and presentation standards. Operate espresso machines, coffee grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment safely and efficiently. Demonstrate knowledge of espresso extraction, milk steaming, beverage preparation, and basic latte art where applicable. Ensure consistency in beverage taste, temperature, portioning, presentation, and overall quality. Customize beverages according to guest preferences while maintaining product and quality standards. Monitor the quality and freshness of coffee, milk, syrups, garnishes, and other beverage ingredients. 2. Guest Service & Experience Welcome and engage guests in a warm, friendly, and professional manner. Take guest orders accurately and efficiently, confirming special requests and preferences when required. Provide knowledgeable recommendations on beverages, pastries, snacks, and other menu offerings. Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions, requests, and concerns. Handle complaints with courtesy and professionalism and escalate issues to the appropriate supervisor or manager when necessary. Anticipate guest needs and proactively provide assistance to enhance the overall guest experience. Maintain a positive, welcoming, and professional presence throughout the shift. 3. Cash Handling & POS Operations Accurately enter orders and process payments using the hotel’s POS system. Handle cash, credit/debit card transactions, room charges, vouchers, and other approved payment methods in accordance with hotel procedures. Maintain accurate cash handling and follow all established opening, closing, and cash-control procedures. Ensure all transactions are processed accurately and securely. Report any discrepancies or irregularities to the supervisor or manager promptly. 4. Cleanliness, Hygiene & Food Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic workstation throughout the shift. Clean and sanitize coffee machines, grinders, blenders, counters, utensils, equipment, and service areas in accordance with established procedures. Follow all hotel, local, and applicable food safety, hygiene, and health regulations. Ensure proper storage, labelling, handling, and temperature control of food and beverage products. Prevent cross-contamination and maintain appropriate personal hygiene and grooming standards. Keep guest-facing areas, counters, display areas, and seating spaces clean and presentable. Restock cups, lids, napkins, straws, condiments, takeaway packaging, and other operating supplies as required. 5. Inventory & Stock Management Monitor stock levels of coffee beans, tea, milk, syrups, beverages, pastries, disposables, and other operating supplies. Inform the supervisor or manager of low-stock items, shortages, damaged products, or wastage. Assist with receiving, checking, storing, and organizing deliveries. Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principles and appropriate storage procedures. Minimize product wastage through proper portion control, storage, and handling. Support regular stock counts and inventory checks as required. 6. Equipment Care & Maintenance Operate all coffee and beverage equipment in accordance with manufacturer and hotel procedures. Carry out daily cleaning and basic preventive maintenance of equipment. Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or maintenance requirements promptly. Ensure equipment is properly cleaned, switched off, and secured at the end of the shift where applicable. 7. Teamwork & Operational Support Work collaboratively with baristas, servers, culinary staff, supervisors, managers, and other hotel departments to ensure smooth service. Communicate guest requests, special requirements, and operational issues effectively with the team. Support colleagues during busy periods to maintain efficient service flow. Assist with serving pastries, snacks, and other approved food items when required. Support opening, closing, and daily operational duties of the outlet. Perform other reasonable duties assigned by the supervisor or management. 8. Hotel Standards & Professional Conduct Consistently uphold the hotel’s service, quality, grooming, hygiene, and operational standards. Follow hotel policies, procedures, and applicable health and safety requirements. Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate appropriate personal grooming at all times. Protect guest privacy and confidentiality and handle guest information responsibly. Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive working environment. Represent the hotel professionally in all interactions with guests, colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders. Experience Needed Qualifications & Skills Education High school diploma or equivalent qualification is preferred. Barista training, hospitality, or food and beverage certification is an advantage. Experience Previous experience as a Barista, Café Attendant, Food & Beverage Associate, or in a similar customer facing hospitality role is preferred. Previous experience in a hotel, café, restaurant, specialty coffee shop, or other hospitality environment is an advantage. Technical Skills Good knowledge of coffee preparation and espresso-making techniques. Knowledge of milk steaming, basic latte art, beverage presentation, and specialty coffee preparation. Familiarity with espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and other beverage equipment. Basic knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures. Familiarity with POS systems and cash-handling procedures. Basic understanding of inventory control and stock rotation. Physical & Working Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the shift. Ability to lift and carry items where required. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as standing, reaching, bending, lifting, carrying, and operating beverage equipment. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain effective during periods of high guest volume. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and varying schedules based on business requirements.
