The minimum requirements are as follows: (1) Juris Doctorate degree from an Accredited Law School and (2) Registered Attorney, in good standing, with the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois. This position is responsible for the prosecution of felonies, misdemeanors, traffic violations, conservation violations, ordinance violations, petitions to revoke, bond hearings, abuse and neglect cases, and juvenile delinquency cases as well as screening these same type of cases for approval of charges, representing the Mercer Count government including departments, officials, and employees in their official capacities civil matter and litigation, participating in specialty and diversionary courts, and providing legal advice to law enforcement officers about criminal investigations. The Assistant State’s Attorney may also provide legal advice to all department heads and elected office holders of Mercer County Government. Previous experience in the field of criminal law is preferred, but not mandatory. Salary ranges based on experience, but benefits include an IMRF pension, health insurance, dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, paid continuing legal education and bar dues.
