Assistant Plant Manager

Job Summary

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s fabrication process, including quality assurance and quality control. This role provides direction across fabrication departments, delegates authority so department leaders can manage their areas effectively, and maintains appropriate company oversight. The Assistant Plant Manager makes final decisions on major fabrication issues and is responsible for ensuring that fabrication personnel are qualified to perform their work.

Duties

• Direct and oversee the company’s fabrication process.
• Coordinate with department heads, providing assistance and guidance as needed.
• Review suggestions and evaluate whether they should be implemented.
• Assess the need for major fabrication equipment purchases.
• Review jobs during fabrication to evaluate progress and address concerns.
• Lead daily production meetings to review job production reports and participate in weekly production meetings.
• Keep production moving and help ensure steel flows efficiently through the shop.
• Oversee nonconformance meetings and write corrective actions when needed.
• Assist with customer complaints and help address quality concerns.
• Recommend improvements to the company’s quality system.
• Ensure fabrication personnel are qualified for their work; qualification activities may be completed by others.
• Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor at the start of work, during lunch, and during breaks.
• Contribute to future company planning.

Requirements

• Complete understanding of the structural steel fabrication process.
• Thorough knowledge of the structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and erection business.
• Ability to manage people in a constructive, team-building manner.
• Ability to assess fabrication issues, evaluate options, and make sound decisions.
• Ability to work effectively with department heads and support teams across the fabrication operation.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
