We are looking for a proactive, commercially minded Assistant Operations Manager who wants to take increasing ownership of how a growing business runs. This is not a traditional administration role. You will work closely with the Director and take increasing responsibility for customer service, sales follow-up, engineer productivity, cash collection, systems and day-to-day operations. Within around four to six months , the aim is for you to be carrying the lion’s share of routine operational responsibility, allowing the Director to focus more on leadership, technical delivery and growing the business. Key responsibilities Manage customer enquiries, callbacks and emails Manage leads, book appointments and follow up quotations Keep engineer diaries productive and help fill gaps Manage customer and job workflows through Commusoft Follow up outstanding actions, servicing and recommended works Raise invoices and chase outstanding payments Identify appropriate upsell opportunities Maintain accurate CRM and job information Improve systems, processes and automation Monitor key numbers and produce simple weekly reports Liaise with suppliers and coordinate deliveries where required As you become established, you will be expected to make day-to-day operational decisions within agreed parameters rather than referring every issue back to the Director. What we are looking for You will be organised, commercially aware and comfortable taking responsibility. You should have: strong customer service and telephone skills confidence making outbound follow-up calls confidence discussing quotations and payments excellent organisation and attention to detail good judgement and decision-making ability experience using CRM or job-management systems a proactive approach to improving systems and processes This role is likely to suit someone who has already become the dependable person in a smaller business and is now ready to take broader commercial and operational responsibility. Experience within plumbing, heating, air conditioning, construction, property maintenance or another field-service business would be highly desirable. Commusoft experience would be an advantage but is not essential. There may be some remote working during the initial office set-up period.
