Assistant Operations Manager
Quest Power
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 basic (depending on experience)
About Quest Power
Quest Power is a new and rapidly growing business specialising in mobile generator and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) hybrid power solutions. We provide reliable temporary and off-grid power through the rental of hybrid units that combine generators with advanced battery storage—reducing fuel use, emissions, and noise while maximising uptime. Our operations cover the full lifecycle of these systems, including deployment, on-site support, and transportation of the units, supporting critical applications such as mobile diagnostic facilities and other temporary power requirements.
As part of the wider Quest Group (circa 200 employees), we benefit from the stability and resources of an established organisation while retaining the agility and growth opportunities of a newer, expanding business. This creates strong career progression prospects for motivated team members as we continue to scale.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Assistant Operations Manager to support the smooth, efficient, and reliable running of our rental fleet and logistics operations. You will work closely with the Operations Manager to coordinate the deployment and transportation of mobile generators and BESS hybrid units, manage day-to-day operational activities, and participate in the weekend on-call management rota as an escalation point.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of daily operations, identify ways to improve efficiency, control operational costs and ensure the business runs as effectively as possible.
This is a hands-on role in a fast-growing company, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic rental environment and wants clear opportunities to develop their career as the business expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the scheduling, allocation, and deployment of mobile generators and BESS hybrid systems to meet customer requirements.
- Oversee transportation logistics, including planning and managing the movement of units to and from sites, working with internal teams and external transport partners.
- Monitor fleet availability, utilisation, and condition; support maintenance scheduling and ensure units are prepared, tested, and ready for deployment.
- Act as a key point of contact for operational queries, coordinating between customers, field technicians, drivers, and internal departments.
- Participate in the weekend on-call management rota as an escalation point only (not first-line response), ensuring critical operational issues are addressed promptly outside normal hours.
- Track and report on operational metrics such as equipment uptime, hybrid system performance, delivery times, and response rates.
- Support health, safety, and compliance processes related to equipment handling, transportation, and site operations.
- Assist with inventory management, documentation, and continuous improvement of operational processes.
- Help train and support operational team members as required and cover for the Operations Manager when needed.
- Contribute to resolving operational issues quickly to minimise downtime and maintain high service standards.
- Improve transport planning and equipment movements to reduce unnecessary journeys, delays and operational costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve fleet utilisation, reduce downtime and make better use of available resources.
- Take ownership of day-to-day operational issues, making decisions and resolving problems without unnecessary escalation.
- Review existing processes and introduce practical improvements to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Monitor operational costs and identify opportunities to make savings without affecting service quality.
Requirements
- Proven experience in an operations, logistics, or equipment rental environment (power generation, plant hire, temporary power, or similar is highly desirable).
- Strong organisational, planning, and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced setting.
- Experience coordinating the transportation or movement of heavy or specialised equipment is an advantage.
- Willing and able to participate in the weekend on-call management rota as an escalation point.
- Familiarity with generators, BESS, hybrid power systems, or related technical equipment is beneficial but not essential—training can be provided.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused and solutions-oriented approach.
- Competent in using operational systems, spreadsheets, and basic reporting tools.
- Full UK driving licence preferred; willingness to travel occasionally as required.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive, hands-on attitude.
- Ability to work independently, take responsibility and make decisions when required.
- Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of how operational efficiency affects costs and business performance.
- A practical approach to identifying problems and implementing improvements rather than simply managing existing processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the power generation, temporary power, hybrid energy, or equipment rental sector.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to equipment handling and transportation.
- Some supervisory or team leadership experience.
What Success Looks Like
You will help Quest Power deliver reliable hybrid power solutions efficiently, improve fleet utilisation and logistics performance, and provide dependable escalation support on the weekend on-call rota.
Success in this role will also mean reducing unnecessary operational costs, improving transport and equipment planning, minimising downtime and taking responsibility for ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly with minimal supervision.
As a key member of a rapidly growing business within the wider Quest Group, you will also have clear opportunities for career progression as the company continues to expand.
