We are a rapidly growing activated-carbon business based on a circular economy model and exceptional technical capabilities, with sites across the UK, Europe and USA. We are looking for an ambitious and commercially curious finance professional to support the financial management and commercial performance of our international business. This is a broad and developmental role offering hands-on experience across management accounting, sales and margin analysis, forecasting, budgeting, financial control, business partnering and finance transformation. Initially, a key focus will be taking ownership of the established Spanish month-end processes and preparation of the monthly management accounts, alongside sales and margin reporting, stock reporting and balance sheet reconciliations. Comprehensive process documentation is already in place to help the successful candidate quickly develop their knowledge and take ownership of these activities. Working closely with the Head of Finance, Spanish Head of Sales, our local partner in Spain and the wider UK Finance team, the role will increasingly support the commercial development of the business through better financial analysis, forecasting and insight. A key objective of the role is to take ownership of existing processes, develop a strong understanding of how they work and continually look for opportunities to improve them. As they become more efficient and automated, the intention is to create additional capacity for more value-adding financial analysis, commercial support and business partnering. Key Responsibilities Management Accounts & Financial Control - Take ownership of the monthly Spanish finance processes and preparation of the monthly management accounts. - Prepare and post appropriate month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and other accounting adjustments. - Ensure the accurate reporting of revenue, cost of sales and gross margin. - Review the monthly P&L with the Head of Finance, investigating and explaining significant movements and variances. - Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items. - Support the continued development of appropriate financial controls across the Spanish operation. - Work closely with the UK Finance team and local Spanish partner to ensure transactions are appropriately captured and reported. Sales, Margin & Commercial Reporting - Prepare the monthly Spanish Sales & Margin Report and consolidate monthly reporting into the year-to-date sales reporting. - Develop an understanding of customer, product and sales margin performance and investigate unusual or emerging trends. - Work with the Head of Finance and the Spanish team to continually develop the quality and usefulness of sales and margin reporting. - Support the development and preparation of the Spanish Monthly Performance Review Papers. - Provide financial analysis and insight to support commercial discussions and decision-making. Sales Orders, Cost of Sales & Stock - Review sales orders received from our Spanish partner, ensuring appropriate pricing and stock availability. - Work with the wider team to ensure purchase order and goods received processes accurately capture direct cost of sales and inventory. - Review the allocation of cost of sales against customer sales and investigate exceptions. - Calculate and process stock adjustments where stock-related costs have been identified within the P&L. - Ensure production movements are captured accurately each month. - Support the monthly stock count and reconciliation process and investigate stock queries and differences. - Respond to ad-hoc financial and operational queries from our Spanish partner. Forecasting, Budgeting & FP&A - Support the Head of Finance in developing the Spanish forecasting process. - Support preparation of the monthly mid-month flash and provide commentary on emerging performance. - Prepare and maintain monthly cash-flow forecasts. - Work with the Head of Finance & the commercial team to prepare annual sales and gross-margin budgets by customer and product. - Support the consolidation of the annual sales plan into the wider annual budget. - Use the sales and operational forecasts to support development of cash-flow and balance-sheet forecasts. - As the role develops, take increasing ownership of forecasting, variance analysis and performance reporting. Systems & Finance Transformation - Work with the Head of Finance, IT and wider business to support the migration from the legacy Perito ERP/accounting system to NetSuite. - Support data cleansing, migration, validation and reconciliation, together with process testing and transition activities. - Help develop appropriate NetSuite processes and reporting for the Spanish business, with a focus on improving financial control and reducing manual intervention. - Work with Finance and IT to identify opportunities to simplify and automate existing processes and reporting. - Ensure key finance activities are supported by clear and up-to-date process documentation. Role Development & Continuous Improvement The successful candidate will initially focus on learning, understanding and taking ownership of the established processes. As their knowledge and experience develop, they will be encouraged to challenge existing ways of working and identify opportunities to simplify, improve and automate them. The capacity created through these improvements will enable the role to evolve, with increasing exposure to financial analysis, forecasting, commercial insight and business partnering. The Head of Finance will actively support this development, encouraging the successful candidate to take increasing ownership, develop their own ideas and grow their finance career. Alongside taking genuine ownership of management accounting processes, the successful candidate will gain exposure to: - Management accounts and financial control - Sales and gross-margin analysis - Budgeting, forecasting and FP&A - Commercial finance and business partnering - Inventory and operational finance - ERP implementation and NetSuite - Process improvement and automation - Working directly with senior finance and commercial stakeholders - The intention is for the role to develop with the individual. The successful candidate is likely to have: - Practical experience within a finance or management accounting environment. - AAT qualification and/or be studying towards CIMA, ACCA or another relevant professional finance qualification. - A good understanding of management accounting fundamentals, including month-end journals and balance sheet reconciliations. - Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data. - Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time-management skills. - The confidence to communicate effectively and build relationships with both finance and non-finance colleagues. - A proactive and inquisitive approach, with an interest in understanding the story behind the numbers and identifying better ways of working. - Experience of ERP systems would be advantageous, but a willingness to learn and become involved in the NetSuite implementation is more important.
