Job Summary The Assistant Director of Development manages a comprehensive fundraising program — including direct mail, annual leadership giving, events, and grants — to reach ambitious goals in support of the Friendship Home mission. This role works closely with the Director of Development, colleagues, and committee members to renew and upgrade existing donors and acquire new donors to ensure Friendship Home has the resources it needs to serve the community. The Assistant Director is charged with meeting revenue and programmatic goals, deepening relationships with donors at all levels, and monitoring performance against plan. Duties Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Fundraising Execute a comprehensive fundraising program that includes direct mail, annual leadership giving, events, and grant initiatives. Oversee the appeal calendar and develop and execute direct mail and email annual solicitations. Build an annual leadership giving society and personally engage, solicit, and steward donors giving $1,000 or more annually. Design new family engagement strategies to increase giving participation. Research private foundation funding opportunities; write, submit, and track grant proposals; and prepare timely, compelling reports that satisfy funder requirements and support renewal. Monitor and report on progress to goal. Events & Sponsorship Develop a comprehensive event solicitation plan and secure sponsorships from individuals and corporate partners. Recruit, manage, and steward event committees. Oversee recognition and stewardship of event sponsors. Evaluate event ROI and develop strategies to increase donations, exceed revenue goals, and reduce expenses. Other Represent Friendship Home and its priorities and mission in externally facing meetings and events. Other duties as assigned and as needed to help reach development and organizational goals. Qualifications Experience managing an annual giving program, including direct mail, email, and leadership giving societies. Experience managing volunteer fundraising committees. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, along with strong donor cultivation and stewardship instincts. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet critical deadlines; strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team; collaborative style with the ability to build relationships. Professional experience interacting with donors, prospects, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and board members. Analytical skills to monitor progress to goal, evaluate ROI, and inform budget and strategy decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and donor databases. Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and events. Highly motivated, energetic, and detail- and goal-oriented, with excellent time management and listening skills. Passion and enthusiasm for Friendship Home's mission. EXPERIENCE Minimum 5-7 years of experience in annual giving, development, fundraising events, and/or nonprofit development, preferably with a nonprofit organization. EDUCATION Bachelor's degree, preferably in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
