Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our finance team. In this vital role, you will support the organization’s financial operations by overseeing accounting functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining accurate financial records. Responsibilities Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards. Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing processes. Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing and accuracy of transactions. Support compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and other regulatory frameworks relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting. Conduct detailed financial analysis, including cash flow analysis, budget variance reports, and forecasting to inform strategic planning. Maintain proficiency with financial software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, Quicken, and other accounting tools to streamline operations. Mentor junior staff members by providing guidance on technical accounting issues, fostering professional growth within the team. Qualifications Proven experience in accounting and finance roles with a strong understanding of GAAP, technical accounting principles, and double-entry bookkeeping. Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit accounting, governmental accounting, or public accounting environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with SOX compliance procedures and securities law regulations related to financial reporting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel—including data analysis functions like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and spreadsheet management for financial report writing and interpretation. Experience with financial software such as PeopleSoft, Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar platforms is required. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately and efficiently. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, bank reconciliation, and audit preparation. Ability to mentor team members effectively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
