Application Support Engineer

Senior Application Support Engineer | Java & AWS | Up to £95,000 | Hybrid - 3 Days Per Week (London)

I'm working with a fast-growing technology business that's looking for a Senior Application Support Engineer to drive the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of a business-critical platform.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for someone from a strong Application Support or Platform Engineering background who's ready to lead a team while remaining technically involved.

You'll be responsible for operational excellence, major incident management and platform reliability, while helping shape the future direction of the platform through automation, monitoring and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own the availability, performance and reliability of core business platforms, overseeing support escalations and major incident management.
• Provide technical leadership across cloud infrastructure, application support and DevOps, driving improvements in automation, monitoring and scalability.
• Lead, mentor and develop a team of Platform Operations Engineers, managing objectives, capacity and support coverage.
• Act as the key link between business stakeholders, engineering teams and external technology partners.
• Drive continuous improvement through better processes, documentation, automation and long-term technical solutions.
• Contribute to platform strategy, roadmap planning and operational standards.
• Coordinate with international teams to ensure consistent processes and reliable global support.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in an application support, platform operations or similar technical leadership role.
• Experience managing or mentoring technical teams.
• Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
• Commercial experience working with AWS, Terraform and Docker in production environments.
• Experience with scripting or object-oriented programming languages.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with database technologies such as SQL Server and MongoDB.
• Experience with configuration management, automation and orchestration tools.
• Understanding of APIs and microservices architectures.
• Experience supporting business-critical applications and production environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, incident management and root cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical teams and senior business stakeholders.
