Limn Risk Advisors · Birmingham, MI · Full-time, on-site

About Limn Risk Advisors

Limn Risk Advisors (Limn Insurance) is an independent P&C agency in Birmingham, Michigan, backed by KMI Family Ventures. We have direct appointments with national carriers including Chubb, Travelers, Hanover and The Hartford, and an existing book of commercial business.

What we don't have yet is one person who owns the agency full time. Today it's run by a group of partners who each have other jobs. We're hiring an operator to take it over and build it into a real business.

The role

This is the GM and head coach of the agency, not a producer seat and not a figurehead CEO. You'll build the operating plan, the sales plan and the funnel, then come back to the partners with the budget and the people you need to execute it. You own the P&L, and you're expected to sell and close alongside your team, especially early on.

This role is your only job. You report to the principals of KMI Family Ventures and work in our Birmingham office.

Your first 90 days

  1. Days 1 to 30: Learn and stabilize. Get into the existing book, carrier appointments and pipeline. Keep active submissions moving so our carrier partners see steady flow. Meet the partners and our in-house tech team.
  2. Days 31 to 60: Build the plan. Deliver a written operating plan: target lines and verticals, carrier strategy, premium and revenue goals, sales funnel and lead sources, and the service model.
  3. Days 61 to 90: Ask for what you need. Present the budget and headcount plan (producers, CSR or account manager support), pick the agency management system, and start hiring against the plan.

What you'll own

Strategy and P&L

  • Set the agency's growth plan, revenue targets and operating budget, and report results to the partners on a regular cadence.
  • Own profitability: commission flow, carrier minimums, premium finance revenue and expense discipline.
  • Run the agency on clear KPIs (new premium, retention, hit ratio, pipeline, revenue per producer).

Sales and production

  • Be a rainmaker. Sell and close commercial and personal lines accounts personally while the team is built.
  • Build the sales engine: lead sources, referral partners, outreach and trade shows.
  • Set producer goals and hold the team to them.

Carriers and markets

  • Manage existing carrier relationships and decide which new appointments are worth pursuing, based on our target business and each carrier's minimums.
  • Build strong markets in our focus areas: hospitality and lodging, small and mid-size commercial, workers' comp, and high-net-worth personal lines.

Team

  • Recruit, hire and coach producers and service staff.
  • Define roles, compensation plans and lead attribution so the team knows how they win.

Operations and systems

  • Select and roll out an agency management system and define the workflows for quoting, binding, renewals, billing and service.
  • Work with our in-house technology team to automate the manual work. You tell them what to build.
  • Keep licensing, appointments and compliance in good standing.

What we're looking for

Must have

  • 10+ years in P&C agency or brokerage, including at least 3 years running a business: an agency, a branch, a regional office or a profit center with P&L responsibility.
  • A record of personal production, plus experience building and managing a team of producers.
  • Existing carrier and market relationships, ideally in Michigan and the Midwest.
  • Michigan P&C producer license, or the ability to get it within 60 days.
  • No outside book, side agency or restrictive non-compete that keeps you from going all in here.
  • An entrepreneurial track record: you've started or owned an agency, built a book or office from zero, or run your own business. We want someone who has already bet on themselves.

Nice to have

  • Experience in hospitality and lodging, workers' comp, or high-net-worth personal lines.
  • Experience implementing an agency management system (Applied Epic, AMS360, HawkSoft or similar).
  • Life and A&H license, or a designation such as CIC, CPCU or CRM.
  • Experience with premium finance, co-brokerage or wholesale relationships.

Who this is not for

  • Producers who want to protect their own book and hand everything else off. You'll sell, but you'll also run the business.
  • Executives who want a finished company to manage. There's no big team or playbook waiting for you; you're building it.
  • Anyone looking for a part-time or lifestyle role. This takes full focus, early mornings, trade shows and travel.

If you've ever wanted to build an agency without putting up your own capital, this is that shot.
