AEO and Analytics Specialist
About Greenough
Greenough Communications, LLC is an independent brand marketing and communications agency headquartered in Boston, MA working with companies in technology, healthcare and life sciences, and the climate transition. We help brand partners build reputations that hold up with the people who matter to their business and the AI tools those people use to find them. Our charter runs with the mission of AI-powered and human-led.
About the role
When a buyer, investor, or reporter asks their model of choice about a company or category, the answer draws heavily on earned media coverage and owned content. That is our territory. Greenough is hiring an AEO and Analytics Specialist to ensure our brand partners show up in those answers accurately, and to measure what our work is producing across these channels.
You will work with account teams across our three practices, report to our Head of AI Visibility, and serve as the agency’s go-to resource on how AI answer engines source and cite information and on how we measure the impact of our work. Roughly half of this role is analytics: building the measurement plans, dashboards, and reports that show every brand partner what their program is delivering. This role suits someone with a background in SEO, analytics, or digital PR who wants to apply it to brand strategy and AI visibility.
What you’ll do
AEO/GEO and search strategy
- Audit how clients appear across AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode), including which sources get cited, how accurately clients are described, and where competitors show up instead
- Build AEO/GEO strategies that tie into each client’s media relations programs, thought leadership, and content plans, so earned coverage and owned content are written and structured to be cited
- Identify the publications, analyst reports, and third-party sources AI engines rely on in each client’s category, and work with media teams to prioritize them
- Recommend technical and on-site improvements, including structured data, answer-first page structure, crawlability for AI agents, and emerging standards such as llms.txt
- Stay current on how answer engines change the way they source and cite content, and share what you learn across the agency
Analytics and measurement
- Build measurement plans at the start of a program, setting baselines, KPIs, and a reporting cadence tied to each brand partner's business goals
- Measure earned media performance beyond quantity, including share of voice, message pull-through, sentiment, outlet quality, and the traffic and engagement coverage drives
- Set up and audit GA4, Google Tag Manager, and Search Console for clients, including UTM conventions, conversion tracking, and attribution of referral traffic from coverage and AI platforms
- Analyze social and executive visibility performance on LinkedIn and other priority channels
- Own the measurement approach for AI visibility, tracking citations, share of voice, sentiment, and prompt-level performance with tools such as Gumshoe, Trakkr, Profound, Semrush, Peec AI, or Otterly.AI
- Build and maintain dashboards that bring together AI visibility, web analytics (GA4, Search Console), earned media, and social performance
- Connect communications activity to outcomes clients care about, such as referral traffic, branded search, and inbound leads
- Benchmark clients against competitors and flag gaps and opportunities
- Lead quarterly reporting with account teams, explaining what changed, why it changed, and what the brand should do next
- Standardize reporting templates across the agency and keep data consistent across tools
Client counsel
- Present findings and recommendations directly to brand partners in plain language, with a clear point of view on what to do next
- Help account teams scope AEO and analytics work and spot where existing clients would benefit from expanded programs
- Support new business pitches with AI visibility audits and measurement plans
Agency expertise
- Train account and content teams on writing and structuring content for answer engines
- Support Greenough’s own AEO and analytics work in partnership with our brand marketing team
- Use AI tools to speed up research and reporting while applying your own judgment to every recommendation
What you bring
- 4 to 7 years of experience in SEO, AEO/GEO, marketing analytics, or digital PR, including at least one year of hands-on AEO/GEO work
- Agency experience, or in-house experience supporting multiple business units or brands
- Working knowledge of how AI answer engines retrieve and cite sources, and how that differs from traditional search ranking
- Hands-on experience with AI visibility platforms (e.g., Trakkr, Gumshoe, Profound, Peec AI, Otterly.AI, Scrunch, Semrush) and SEO tools (e.g., Ahrefs, Screaming Frog)
- Experience building measurement frameworks for communications or marketing programs, including earned media measurement
- Proficiency in GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, and a dashboarding tool such as Looker Studio
- Experience with earned media monitoring and measurement tools such as Muck Rack, Cision, or Meltwater, and with social analytics platforms
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills and comfort cleaning and combining data from multiple sources
- Ability to turn data into a clear story with a recommendation, for audiences who do not work in analytics
- Comfort with technical SEO fundamentals, including schema markup, site architecture, and basic HTML
- Strong writing and presentation skills, with experience presenting to clients or senior stakeholders
- A communications and PR-minded approach to search: you understand that earned media and reputation shape what AI engines say about a brand
- Relevant bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience or certifications
