Accounting Consultant

We are seeking an Accounting Consultant to support accounting operations for loan, investment, and hedge accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of relevant, hands-on accounting experience , preferably within banking, mortgage finance, or capital markets , with strong account reconciliation and variance analysis skills.

This role supports accurate financial records, monthly accounting processes, and internal controls while working with complex financial transactions and investigating discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and journal entries for assigned accounting processes.
• Validate Mortgage Partnership Finance (MPF) loan commitments, funding activity, principal and interest remittances, credit enhancement fees, and related transactions by comparing source system reports with accounting records.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, documenting findings and explanations for material fluctuations.
• Prepare and post journal entries related to income, expenses, premium and discount amortization/accretion, fair value adjustments, hedge accounting, nonperforming loans, loan loss reserves, charge-offs, and real estate owned (REO).
• Execute monthly FAS 91/FAS 149 processing and support accounting for loans, mortgage-backed securities (MBS), and investment portfolios.
• Perform period-over-period variance analyses and reconcile and certify general ledger accounts in Workday Financials.
• Support designated hedge accounting processes during resource coverage, including supporting schedules, reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and workflow documentation.
• Perform hedge inception testing for new trades to assess compliance with Bank policies and ASC 815.
• Conduct weekly hedge effectiveness testing and document any failures according to established policies and procedures.
• Follow documented internal controls and maintain supporting documentation for management review and audit testing.

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience with account reconciliations, variance analysis, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
• Experience using Workday Financials or a comparable financial accounting system.
• Ability to compare financial data across systems, investigate discrepancies, and clearly document conclusions.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accurate accounting records.
• Ability to execute established accounting procedures and maintain complete supporting documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Accounting experience within banking, mortgage finance, or capital markets.
• Experience with hedge accounting, loan accounting, or investment portfolio accounting.
• Familiarity with ASC 815, hedge inception testing, and hedge effectiveness testing.
• Exposure to MPF loan activity, mortgage-backed securities, FAS 91/FAS 149 processing, or premium and discount amortization/accretion.
